Data Elements

Element Narrative
Academic Year A year-long period of time that makes up the academic calendar.
African American or Black A person having origins from any of the black racial groups of Africa.
Asian A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian Subcontinent. Examples include: Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Citizenship An indicator of whether or not the person is a US citizen.
Hispanic A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
Institution ID Postsecondary Institution ID
Native American or Alaska Native A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South American (including Central America) and who maintain cultural identification through tribal affiliations or community recognition.
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander A person having origins in any of the Pacific Islands including American States or territories.
Race and Ethnicity Unknown The field used to report students whose race and ethnicity are not known.
Student ID - Postsecondary SLDS A unique number assigned to a student through the Education Unique ID (EDUID) system
Term The period of time that the institution holds academic classes.
Two or More Races A person who identifies themselves with two or more races.
White A person who has origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East.

Asian Values are yes, no, or unreported.
Citizenship Values are US Citizen, Resident Alien of US, Non-resident Alien, Foreign national, and Unreported.
Hispanic Values are yes, no, or unreported.
Institution ID Must be the IPEDS assigned code for the institution
Native American or Alaska Native Values are yes, no, or unreported.
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander Values are yes, no, or unreported.
Race and Ethnicity - Postsecondary Table Optional data at Postsecondary Level.
Race and Ethnicity Unknown Equals unknown if no race / ethnicity data available.
Term Values are Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Two or More Races Values are yes, no, or unreported.
White Values are yes, no, or unreported.
