Element Narrative
Academic Year A year-long period of time that makes up the academic calendar.
Award Category Code (ACAT) This code identifies the level of the degree or certificate the student was awarded.
Award Date The year, month and day on which the academic award was conferred.
Credits - Cumulative Earned from Institution Total cumulative credits earned by the student from the institution through course work.
Credits - Transfer Awarded Credits accepted by the student's institution which were completed and awarded from other institutions in which the person was previously enrolled.
Credits - Transfer Evaluated Credits previously completed at other institutions submitted for review. These credits may not all be awarded.
Degree Degree or certificate earned by a student.
Degree Description Description of the degree or certificate awarded to the student.
Degree First Academic Year The first academic year a student was enrolled and working towards their degree.
Degree First Term The first term a student was enrolled and working towards their degree.
Degree Last Academic Year The last academic year a student was enrolled and working towards their degree.
Degree Last Term The last term a student was enrolled and working towards their degree.
Grade Point Average - Institution A measure of average performance in all courses taken by a person during his or her institution career as determined for record-keeping purposes. This is obtained by dividing the total grade points received by the total number of credits attempted. This includes grade points received and credits attempted in his or her current institution.
Grade Point Average - Institution and Transfer A measure of average performance in all courses taken by a person during his or her institution career as determined for record-keeping purposes. This is obtained by dividing the total grade points received by the total number of credits attempted. This includes grade points received and credits attempted in his or her current institution as well as those transferred from institutions in which the person was previously enrolled.
Grade Point Average Credits - Institution Cumulative Total credits that apply to a student's grade point average.
Honor Graduation honors earned by the student.
Institution ID Postsecondary Institution ID
Major CIP Code Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) used to identify a student or graduate's major instructional program specialties.
Minor CIP Code Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) used to identify a student or graduate's minor instructional program specialties.
Minor Description Description of the student's degree minor.
Quality Points - Degree The cumulative numerical value assigned to all letter grades to provide a basis to calculate a degree GPA.
Student ID - Postsecondary SLDS A unique number assigned to a student through the Education Unique ID (EDUID) system
Term The period of time that the institution holds academic classes.

Award Category Code (ACAT) ACAT are integers between the value of 1 and 19. Higher numbers are related to higher level of degrees.

Degree Description The Postsecondary SLDS can track up to 4 different degree descriptions.
Degree First Academic Year Academic years are 7 characters long. The first 4 numbers are associated with the calendar year at the start of the summer and fall terms. The 5th character is a dash -. The last two numbers are associated with the calendar year at the end of the spring term. Example 2010-11.
Degree First Term Values are Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Grade Point Average - Institution Numerical

Honor Alphanumeric
Institution ID Must be the IPEDS assigned code for the institution
Minor Description The Postsecondary SLDS can track up to 4 different minors.
